Sin duda es autora de referencia cuando se necesita un texto de fisiología en donde se describan los procesos básicos.
El objetivo de la autora es reducir una asignatura tremendamente extensa como la fisiología a los conceptos básicos y esenciales, presentándolos en capítulos cortos y 'fáciles' de leer, y en el que se razonan escrupulosamente paso a paso cada uno de los procesos y en el que se guía al alumno hasta la resolución detallada de los problemas fisiológicos y matemáticos. La obra se focaliza fundamentalmente en los procesos.
La obra cubre la disciplina tanto a nivel celular como de órgano, presentando en a lo largo de toda su extensión textos concisos y fáciles de leer. El libro contiene 10 capítulos. El primer capítulo titulado 'fisiología celular' contiene los conceptos básicos y generales que luego se utilizan en el resto de capítulos para cada sistema en particular (cardiológico, renal…).
Cada capítulo además de unas ilustraciones a todo color y altamente explicativas por su sencillez, presenta una serie de problemas resueltos en donde se aplican algunos de los conceptos presentados en el texto.
Asimismo, cada capítulo incluye uno o más casos clínicos relacionados con los conceptos tratados en esa parte. Los casos clínicos son especialmente interesantes para enfatizar la correlación entre las ciencias básicas y la clínica. En estos casos se destaca específicamente los principios fisiológicos en los que se sustenta el problema clínico, y permiten a la vez, una aproximación integrada de las relaciones entre los diferentes sistemas del organismo.
Otro elemento didáctico de gran interés es la presencia de una serie de preguntas que permiten al alumno hacer su propia autoevaluación. (Challenge yourself). Las respuestas a cada una de las preguntas se encuentran detalladas al final del libro.
Otro elemento didáctico de gran interés es la presencia de cuadros resúmen de cada capítulo para repaso rápido de las cuestiones fundamentales explicadas en el mismo.
